Getting Started

Making Money from Home

Whether you are a stay-at-home-mom or want to leave your regular nine-to-five, there are plenty of ways to increase your income without leaving the house. These are not ways to ‘get rich quick’. They are proven ways to take your talent and transform it into profit. Some of these will continue to grow passively without any additional work. Read on to find the option that fits your dream lifestyle.

From graphic arts to media management, you can freelance about anything. The best part? You set your own rates. Writing is the most well-known freelancing option. As a beginner, an average rate is five to ten cents a word. That’s $50 for five hundred words. As your experience grows, so will your rates.

Experienced freelance writers make upwards of twenty cents a word. For that same five hundred words, you now bring in at least $100. That’s a 100% profit increase! For reference, this paragraph is about one hundred words. Five paragraphs for $100? That’s a no-brainer.

If you think you may be cut out for typing in your jammies, my next article is for you. Freelancing for Beginners walks you through the process of creating an image for yourself through to finding your first gig. Wondering how soon you will start making money? Child Care

This is my personal favorite for stay-at-home-moms with one child. Social skills are important to develop at a young age. You can’t do it with only one little monster, they need a friend. Opening a child care center in your home is a huge commitment. Full-time centers aren’t just eight hours a day. You have to take into account the hour-or-so it takes for parents to drop them off before work and pick them up afterwards.

Your home will become a troop of monkeys’ territory. But, the rewards can be amazing. You never have to leave your child and wonder what they are doing. You know that they are getting healthy meals and not forgotten.

Another perk is most moms have what they need in their home already. Maybe you need a few more Go-Gurt’s and portable cribs, but that’s a small price to pay considering you don’t have to pay for daycare. You are getting paid to spend time your spawn and help them develop social skills.

This adventure is not without risk, so it’s best to be prepared. I’ve made and used Five Child Care Documents that every child care center needs. These will ensure that you and the parents are on the same page and you will get paid on time.

Selling Crafts Online

Most of us have purchased items online. It’s what people do nowadays. What if those same people were buying your products? Whether it is a quilt or jewelry there is profit to be made.

Sellers who are successful on Etsy make upwards of $6,000 a month. I’ve watched people refurbish a $20 dresser from the thrift store, post it on LetGo, and sell it for $300. There is something for everyone. Therefore, someone will want whatever you create.

I have a friend who sells home decor. If you are into the bohemian chic, her stuff is for you. There are two middle school girls who sell homemade slim at the park once a week. They make about fifty small containers and charge two bucks a piece. Every weekend they sell out.

If you already have a hobby where you create things, why not fund that hobby with itself? Why not make money doing by doing something you enjoy. The options are endless here. If this is something you do, drop your link in the comments so we can check it out!

People will read if you write. There are platforms made for you to sell your work at little to no cost to you. One of the most popular is Amazon. You are able to list your writings at no cost to you. It doesn’t matter if they are short stories or a novel series.

One author I know wrote and published short stories every week while he wrote his novel. The short stories gave him enough income to focus on his book until he got it published and received a contract for the next book! He used, you guessed it, Amazon. The only upfront cost is your time. This is a low-risk, high-reward system.
